Husqvarna took the wraps of its off-road, including
dual sport and motocross, models for 2013. The BMW-own company says it
will import 11 "re-vamped" models to the North American market in 2013.
There will again be four groups of models: Motocross (TC four-stroke,
CR two-stroke and GP), Cross-Country (TXC), Two-Stroke Cross-Country
(WR) and Dual Sport (TE). The four-stroke motors will again be based on
two platforms - the BMW-designed big-bore 449 and 510cc motors, and the
Husqvarna-built smaller-bore 250 and 310cc motors. All of the
two-stroke motors (CR/WR125, WR250 and WR300) are also pure Husky.
TC250R
Husqvarna's signature Red Head DOHC motors, which made its debut on
the 2012 TC250, is now featured on all of the 250/310 engine platforms.
They also get new F1-inspired pistons, new cylinder and Keihin EFI.
The finger-follower valve-train of the Red Head replaces the previous
shim-and-bucket design. Husky claims that new cams allow longer valve
lift, while larger-diameter valves get air and fuel moving quicker
(titanium valves are used on the TC models). Red Head, along with
revisions to the velocity stack and new exhaust, equal significant power
improvement across the board on the cross-country TXC250R, TCX310R and
TE310R (dual sport), says Husky. The new "R" designation on the smaller
four-strokes indicates the Red Head motor.
TXC250R
Both TXC models (250/310) are also said to be made more aggressive
with a new ECU map and revised suspension settings. The Kayaba 48mm
closed-cartridge fork has be re-tuned.
The TE dual-sport models receive additional all-over upgrades, such
as the revised more compact handlebar switches with waterproof
connectors. The fuel system catch canister is redesigned and
repositioned to be less obtrusive. They also have new DOT-approved
rubber that is said to perform better for off-road use.
TE310R
The TC449 returns for the 2013 model year sporting shared changes to
the Husqvarna lineup, including new all-black Domino grips, new bar pad
and updated IPD (in-mold plastic-designed) graphics.
The WR and CR two-strokes feature the same shared changes as the
TC449. Both the CR125 and WR125 two-strokes will again come with a free
144cc top-end kit, including cylinder and piston.
CR125R
Husqvarna is also expected to introduce a big-bore "adventure"-type
dual sport bike that is based around its previous G650
BMW-designed/rotax-built motor.
